Volvo makes some rather handsome cars these days. But few can hold a candle to the classic 1800.

Looking arguably more like a classic Ferrari than a Volvo, the 1800 was immortalized by its starring role alongside Sir Roger Moore in the cult-classic television series The Saint.

This was that very car, used in the production and registered to Moore himself. And Volvo Heritage is preparing to show it off at the upcoming Techno-Classica expo in Essen, Germany, where it will be displayed for the first time at a European classic car show.

After years in Moore’s hands, he sold the car to fellow actor Martin Benson – who, like Sir Roger, starred in a James Bond film, albeit not alongside him. Benson played Mr Solo in Goldfinger, and was just one in a long string of owners who took care of the car until Volvo acquired it a few years ago.

The Swedish automaker will display several other 1800s alongside the Saint car: one in rare light green (belonging to Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson), another prototype with bodywork fabricated by coachbuilder Pietro Frua, an orange 1800 ES shooting brake that has never been drive on the road, a very rare Volvoville convertible (one of just 30 made), and another 1961 barn-find example.

In short, if you dig Volvo’s classic sports car, Essen will be the place to be later this month for the Techno-Classica show. But if you can’t make it to Germany for the exhibition, you can still check out the images in the gallery below.
