Last week, Audi of America announced they had “something special” planned to celebrate the R8’s retirement. The company was coy on specifics, but they released three different teasers hyping up “something big” for the “ultimate send-off.”

So what wonderful thing did Audi have up their sleeve? An announcement about a third-generation R8? A one-off concept celebrating the supercar? An R8 Final Edition?

All of those would have been good options, but Audi decided to go with a video. If you’re left thinking WTF, you’re not alone as the automaker put a lot of effort into teasing a video that won’t even be released until this fall.

So what makes this video such a big deal? You can vote on how it’s created on Instagram. That’s not particularly exciting, but the first round of voting is for the opening shot and its location. Choices include winding roads, city streets, a racetrack, or a desert. Fans can also vote on the time of day this takes place as choices include sunrise, the golden hour, the blue hour, and midnight.

Voting on different aspects of the video will take place through September 15. There’s no word on how it will turn out, but Audi likely has a general idea.

Regardless, the R8 is going away after delivering nearly two decades of thrills. As a result, the 2023 model year will be its last and only a handful of cars remain at U.S. dealerships.
