- The Sedicivalvole is the most desirable version of the Fiat Tipo compact hatchback from the early ’90s.
- A well-preserved used example is offered for sale with 131,620 km (81,785 miles) on the odometer.
- Fiat’s VW Golf GTI rival produced 146 hp from a Lancia-sourced 2.0-liter 16V engine and was praised for its handling and performance.
The current Fiat Tipo might be notoriously absent from the hot hatch game, but the original model from the ’90s was available in an undeniably cool “Sedicivalvole” (that’s literally “sixteen valve” in Italian) trim. If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic, there’s a used example of the Tipo 2.0 16V up for sale, offering a rather affordable ticket to the world of youngtimers.
The featured 1991 Tipo 2.0 Sedicivalvole has covered 131,620 km (81,785 miles) over the past 33 years. Despite its age, the seller attests that it remains in superb condition, both in appearance and performance. Previous owners have evidently kept up with maintenance, though it’s clear the car hasn’t been treated as a mere showpiece; after all, it’s still a Tipo, Fiat’s bread-and-butter compact model.

The bodywork maintains its original Ferrari-inspired Rosso Corsa shade, complemented by unpainted bumpers with red accents. Unique to this version are a rear spoiler and 15-inch alloy wheels. While there is some hail damage on the hood and roof, it shouldn’t deter most potential buyers.
Inside, the retro upholstery of the Recaro seats and rear bench remains intact, showing minimal signs of wear. While the electric sunroof is non-functional, it’s worth noting that such features weren’t common three decades ago, even in more luxurious vehicles. The car also comes equipped with central locking, electric mirrors, power windows, and a pair of fog lights on the front bumper.

Under the hood, you’ll find a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 146 hp (109 kW / 148 PS) and 173 Nm (128 lb-ft) of torque, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. This powerplant originates from the Lancia Thema sedan and shares similarities with the upgraded version utilized by the higher-end Lancia Delta HF Integrale. Unlike the 4WD Lancia, however, the Tipo was solely offered with front-wheel drive.
While the output figure of the vintage hot hatch might be the equivalent of a modern entry-level EV, it was an impressive feat in the early ’90s. The flagship version of the Tipo was praised for its performance and road holding abilities, serving as a direct rival to the VW Golf GTI.
According to the listing on Catawiki, the model spent most of its time in Austria, before being sold in Czech Republic in 2018. The current owner has had it serviced, replacing the timing belt, oil, filters, and battery. Photos of the undercarriage show that the chassis is free of rust, however the engine has a small oil leak and the radiator fan doesn’t turn on.
The Italian model is projected to sell for €12,000-15,000 ($12,800-16,000), a rather high price tag for any Tipo. However, as of the current bid, which stands at €5,750 ($6,128), and with two days remaining in the auction, it has yet to meet the reserve price.
