Audi has announced pricing details for its limited production R8 GT sports car at the launch of sales in the U.S. market. The flagship version of the R8 series is priced at $196,800, compared to $114,200 for the entry-level 4.2-liter V8 model and $149,000 for the standard 5.2-liter V10 variant. Nevertheless, that is considerably less than what a German would pay for the R8 GT in its home market where pricing is set at €193,000 or about US$269,300.
However, landing yourself in a R8 GT won’t be easy as only units will be produced worldwide, with 90 slated for U.S. buyers.
The 2012 R8 GT receives a number of performance and styling modifications over the standard R8 V10 model. These include an upgraded version of the 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine that produces 560 horsepower (+35 hp), a series of weight saving measures that shave approximately 100kg or 220 pounds over the R8 Coupe 5.2 quattro, specially tuned suspension and ESP systems, carbon ceramic brakes and a new bodykit.
The V10 is mated to an R tronic sequential manual transmission allowing for a top speed of 199 mph (320 km/h), and a 0-62 mph (100km/h) time of 3.6 seconds.
