It’s only been a year since BMW Motorsports launched the new Z4 GT3 racer in March of 2010, yet the Bavarian automaker has gone ahead and improved its GT customer sports car. BMW’s motorsports division says goal of the latest modifications was primarily to improve aerodynamic efficiency in order to ensure the car’s competitiveness in the GT3 classes.
The firm’s engineers fine-tuned the aerodynamics of the Z4 GT3 for the new season, while also updating the 4.4-liter V8 engine’s electronics. Power continues to be transmitted through a six-speed sequential gearbox, however, gearshifts are now initiated using two paddles.
The 2010MY BMW Z4 GT3 achieved its greatest success to date in January 2011 in the hands of Claudia Hürtgen (DE), BMW works driver Augusto Farfus (BR), Tommy Milner (US) and Edward Sandström (SE), that won the Dubai 24 Hours for Team Schubert.
Having proved itself in a series of rigorous tests in recent weeks, BMW Motorsports is now offering the improved 2011MY Z4 GT3 at price of €315,000 Euros (plus VAT), which comes to about US$454,000 at today’s exchange rates.
