Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra’s acquisition of SsangYong earlier this year resulted in a fresh investment into the South Korean automaker, which is now preparing a new concept model for the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Today, SsangYong released three cryptic renderings of the Concept XIV-1 that is being described by the automaker as a “premium Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV)”.

The company said the prototype has similar dimensions to a B segment sized vehicle (think Nissan Juke) but offers a high seating position and “the rugged feel of a full sized SUV without any compromise in running costs”.

On the outside, the vehicle is said to feature a wraparound windscreen that extends the glass area to the large C-pillars and coach style doors.

In the interior, SsangYong said that the Concept XIV-1 sports flexible 1+1+2 or 1+3 seating layouts while all chief functions inside the cabin are controlled via mobile devices and smart instruments.

We’ll have more on the XIV-1 from the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
