With the recent presentation of the redesigned for the 2012 model year XF and XFR, you would think that Jaguar was done with this generation of its premium offering in the mid-size sedan segment.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as our scoop photographers captured what at first appears to be a “normal” XFR but a closer looks reveals that this factory prototype is wearing the dark alloy rims of the XKR-S while we can also see a roll cage inside (apparently used for the safety of the test drivers).

Our spies also told us that the car’s tracks looked slightly wider than on the regular XFR and that the prototype’s V8 emitted a more aggressive note from the quad tail pipes.

A possible explanation could be that Jaguar is working on a hardcore XFR-S version as a four-door follow up to the new XKR-S. If true, the flagship XFR model would likely sport the coupe’s uprated 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that generates an additional 40HP and 70Nm of peak torque for a total output of 550-horses and 680Nm (501 lb-ft).

Along with the new wheels seen on this test car, the production model would also get more aggressive bodykit with a new front spoiler, blacked-out chrome effects, a rear wing and possibly a slightly more lowered suspension.
