One of the scariest things that can happen to a racer on the drag strip (or during any motorsport-related event, for that matter), is a serious mechanical failure as even the slightest problem can have disastrous consequences when you’re moving at high-speeds.
For the driver of this first generation Chevrolet Camaro dragster, it all started with the first run when he lost control of the car and hit the sidewall.
Evidently, the driver and/or his team did not take a look or they failed to see that the car suffered significant damages when it collided with the cement wall. As a result, during the second run, the rear axle completely snapped off!
Luckily for the driver, it all went down about a second after he began accelerating, because if this happened a few seconds later, he would have been in serious trouble.
