After the news about the LFA Nürburgring Edition’s lap time of 7:14.64 at Nordschleife racetrack started circulating around the web, Lexus decided today to confirm the feat with an official statement, and more importantly, in-car video footage.

The LFA Nürburgring Edition package is available only on 50 of the 500 LFA cars that are planned to be built.

Changes over the standard model include a more powerful 4.8-liter V10 with 571PS (+11ps), a faster 6-speed sequential transmission, carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic front apron and rear wing, a lower and more aggressively tuned suspension plus mesh-type alloys fitted with higher-grip tires.

Professional race driver and LFA tester, Akira Iida, achieved the lap time of 7:14.64 around the Nürburgring on August 31. Lexus noted that tires used during the performance evaluation were Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, which are the standard road legal specification for the special edition LFA.

Commenting on the result Iida stated: “We are delighted with this achievement. Our ongoing development of the LFA and our recent outings at the Nürburgring 24h race have enabled us to continue to tune the vehicle. The result with the LFA Nürburgring package shows the cars ultimate performance and agility. This is a first activity of its type for Lexus and the constant effort of the team has brought this fantastic result”.

The LFA Nürburgring Edition beats the standard LFA’s lap time by more than 8 seconds, and brings the special edition to the forth place overall in the production car segment ahead of the Dodge Viper ACR (7:22.1), Corvette ZR1 (7:19.63), Donkervoort D8 RS (7:18.1), Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18) and Donkervoort D8 RS (7:14.89).

The fastest production car on record (according to the times listed on Wikipedia), is the Radical SR8 LM (6:48), followed by the Radical SR8 (6:55) and the Gumpert Apollo Sport (7:11.57).

Kudos to Shiro T. for the tip!
