One of the star attractions for automotive enthusiasts visiting the German city of Munich is BMW’s recently redone 53,000 square foot museum. Along with the permanent exhibitions, the Bavarian brand’s museum also hosts special events dedicated to a certain period or line of vehicles.
Starting from October 28, 2011 and until the end of September 2012, the BMW Museum will present a special exhibition devoted to the development of the firm’s large coupe and convertible models throughout the years.
The exhibition is entitled “The Line of Beauty” and comprises of 14 displays that take visitors on a historical journey from 1937 to 2011.
The automotive trip starts with the pre-war BMW 327 Sports Convertible and 327/28 Sports Coupé and continues with the 502 Coupé and the Convertible of the same name, along with the 503 Coupé of the 1950s, and the Bertone-designed 3200 CS and the 2000 CS of the 1960s.
The 1970s are represented by the 3.0 CSi, followed in 1976 by BMW’s first 6 Series range, and the 8-Series of the 1990s before the journey ends with the last two generations of the 6-Series.
Notably, among the vehicles displayed is also a fully-functional prototype of the 850i Convertible, which never made it into production.
