Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are a boon as long as you make judicious use of them. Apparently, Robert Becker, an employee at a Lake Bluff BMW dealership crossed the line and the consequences were dire.

Becker posted comments and pictures on Facebook about a sales event organized by the dealership he was working for, Karl Knauz BMW, criticizing the cheap food that was offered to guests.

On the same day, he posted pictures of an accident at a nearby Land Rover dealership belonging to the same owner. A salesperson allowed a 13-year old son of a customer on the driver’s seat of a car. This proved to be a mistake, as the boy stepped on the gas and drove into a pond.

Along with pictures from the accident, Becket posted: “This is your car. This is your car on drugs”.

After those incidents, he was fired on June 22, 2010. Then the National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against the dealership on behalf of Becker.

However, things didn’t turn out as Becker may have expected: An NLRB administrative law judge ruled that the dealership did not violate federal labor law in firing him.

NLRB representatives did not comment on the decision.
