General Motors has announced a new safety recall campaign for certain MY2012 Cadillac CTS models over an issue with the braking system.

The problem affects 674 vehicles manufactured between October 21 and October 26, 2011. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA], these vehicles may present a problem with the power vacuum brake boost pushrod retention nut, which may not be torqued to the appropriate specification.

In this case, the nut can potentially loosen and the pushrod can be separated from the brake pedal, without any prior warning to the driver, which in turn may result in loss of braking ability and a potential accident.

GM said that Cadillac dealers will inspect the aforementioned vehicles’ power vacuum brake boost retention nut and, if necessary, will torque it to the proper specification free of charge.

Owners may contact Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006 for more information.
