Jaguar may not currently offer its new diesel-powered XF 2.2D in the States, but the British automaker would like Americans to know about the fuel-saving virtues of its four-cylinder model.
To do so, Jaguar brought a British-registered, right-hand drive XF 2.2-litre diesel model to the U.S. with the intent of crossing the country from New York City to Los Angeles in seven days, in a journey that spans more than 2,800 miles and 11 states.
The company said with the trip, it plans to show consumers just how just how thrifty the 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine can be.
The first ever diesel Jaguar to enter the States is piloted by UK test drivers David and Alexander Madgwick, who left New York City at 13:15 GMT on Monday, November 7.
This is not the first time that two drivers have tested the XF 2.2D’s fuel efficiency on a long-range trip as the pair recently traveled from Jaguar’s factory at Castle Bromwich, UK to Munich, Germany covering a distance of 816 miles (1,312km) on a single tank of diesel, averaging 47.5 mpg US (57mpg UK or 4.9 lt/100km).
The XF 2.2D’s new four-cylinder unit delivers and output of 190-horses and 332 lbs ft of torque, that allow the executive saloon to complete the 0-60mph sprint in 8.0-seconds before reaching a top speed of 140mph (225 km/h).
