Daimler’s Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One team announced today that it has renewed its contract with current pilot Nico Rosberg. The two parties have agreed to a multi-year contract which according to the German company, “includes the 2013 F1 season and beyond” – whatever that means.

Although in his two years with Mercedes, Rosberg has scored three podium finishes, he has yet to win a race. “To win in a Silver Arrow will be one of the highlights of my life so far, and I greatly enjoy helping to lead out team in our quest to become the best in Formula 1”, said Rosberg after signing his new contract.

Next season will be the third year in a row that Mercedes GP will have the same pair of drivers as Michael Schumacher, who until recently has been outpaced by Rosberg, has also confirmed that he intends to race in 2013, despite rumors claiming otherwise.

Team principal Ross Brawn commented: “We are delighted to have extended out contract with Nico, as we know he is a driver who can win races and championships. Nico has performed exceptionally well in the past two seasons. He has an excellent work ethic and, together with Michael, this gives us a driver pairing who consistently push the team to improve and progress.”
