Speed cameras have nailed hundreds of thousands (or is it millions?) motorists all over the globe. Up until now, however, most of them have a weak point: their laser beams can’t track more than one vehicle at a time.
Peak Gain Systems Inc. promises to put an end to this with a new device, named “Cordon multi-target Photo Radar System”, which eliminates the current systems’ weakness and makes you think twice before exceeding the posted speed limit.
The device, which is very compact and can be mounted almost anywhere making it hard to spot, can focus on a wide-angle view and a close-up of a vehicle’s number plate simultaneously. It can track up to 32 cars (!) on four lanes, targeting their license plates and measuring their speed.
And that’s not all: it can also automatically detect reserved bus or taxi lane violations thanks to an advanced license plate recognition system, as well as driving on the wrong side of the road. The Cordon also operates perfectly at night courtesy of its infrared spotlights.
An on-board GPS unit records the coordinates of each violation. All data is then stored on an SD memory card, with encryption and protection software preventing any tampering.
We saved the best for last: Cordon offers the option to stream all violations to a centralized database via wired or wireless (3G, WiMAX or WiFi) communication. Police officers can then sit comfortably and watch in real time all offenders get their tickets – and for those boring night shifts, they can even re-run the best parts of the stored footage…
The following video shows the new, all-seeing and recording device in action. Green means the vehicle is traveling bellow the speed limit, yellow that it is within the preset speed parameters, and red, obviously, that you can smile as you’re about to have your picture taken.
