We’ve been following the development of the five-door version of the next generation Volvo C30 for quite some time, and today, the first official teaser image of the compact hatchback found its way onto the web.

There’s limited information on the car as Volvo has not yet released an official statement, but the crew over Autoblog.nl reported that Volvo’s CEO Stefan Jacoby said that the five-door model will be named V40 (and not V30 as it was rumored) and it will receive its world premiere at the 2012 Geneva Salon next March.

The white sheet covering the V40 leaves a lot to the imagination, though it’s safe to assume that the styling will be heavily influenced by the swoopy design language of the S60.

The V40, which is squarely aimed at the five-door versions of the BMW 1-Series and the Audi A3 Sportback, will form the base for the next generation of the three-door C30.

Both the C30 and V40 will likely be offered with a new range of four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines featuring the latest direct-injection and turbocharging technologies.

Expect more details to be released in the coming days.
