Earlier this year, BMW lifted the curtains on the second generation of its 1-Series model range with the launch of the five-door hatchback model.

We already knew that the Bavarians were working on expanding the series with a number of body styles including a three-door hatchback, the two-door coupe and cabriolet and possibly, a longer Gran Turismo version similar to the upcoming 3-Series GT.

Now, we can offer you an early look at the least surprising model in terms of looks, the three-door hatchback, via a set of leaked designs that are said to be sourced from the Chinese patent office.

Like its predecessor, the three-door model builds on the five-door models exterior with its goofy front headlamps.

Don’t expect any surprises under the hood (at least at launch) as the three-door 1-Series will make use of the same lineup of 1.6-liter turbocharged petrols and 2.0-liter turbo diesels found in the five-door model, with a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol to join the range down the line.
