The Santa Fe is one of the older models in Hyundai global palette but this will soon change as the Korean automaker confirmed to Motor Trend that a replacement would make its world premiere at the 2012 New York Auto Show this April.
The current, second generation model was introduced the North American International Auto Show in 2006 having received a mild facelift in 2010.
The new Santa Fe, which will probably be renamed to iX45 in certain markets including Europe and Australia, will sport Hyundai’s more dramatic styling language while it’s also expected to be more tech-savvy with its interior following the example of the Sonata.
In North America, we also expect to see a lot of changes under the hood as Hyundai will most likely replace the current model’s 276HP 3.5-liter V6 engine with its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger that produces up to 274-horses in its most recent version. Transmission options will include six-speed autos and possibly a 6-speed manual. A hybrid model could be a possibility down the line.
In Europe and other international markets, Hyundai’s lineup will include the firm’s latest diesel engines such as the Euro6 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit rated at 150HP and 382Nm (282 lb-ft).
