One of the first things most publications did after the presentation of the latest crop of pony cars from Detroit’s Big Three were to compare them with their 1960 and 1970s predecessors.

So, what’s new about Insideline’s latest test between a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro and its modern-day namesake? Well, the difference here is that both models featured in the video have been heavily modified.

The 1968 Camaro owned by Carl Casanova for the last 30 years sports an array of upgrades the most important of which lies under the hood as it is powered by an LS1 V8 from a 2002 Camaro aided by a Magnuson supercharger. It also gets a six-speed Tremec T56 transmission from the same car, front brakes from a Corvette C4 and rear brakes from a 1990s Camaro Z28.

The newer 2011 Camaro SS has been modified by Hotchkis and also features a Magnuson supercharger bolted onto the 6.2-liter V8 producing somewhere north of 500 ponies, while it rides on meaty 275/40ZR20 tires up front and 315/35ZR20 at the back.

See how they compare on track in the video that follows below.
