Earlier this month, Audi announced that it had completed the design of its brand-new DTM racer for the 2012 season after its homologation.
The A5 DTM, which externally at least, is based on Ingolstdat’s premium coupe, had some differences compared to the initial concept, mainly in its aerodynamic appendages – though the homologated car shown was covered in swirly “camouflage” paint.
During the first day of the official pre-season test at the Valencia track in Spain, Audi revealed the livery of four of its eight teams that will participate in the 2012 championship. The other teams’ cars will be unveiled in a couple of weeks during the second test at Hockenheim on April 2.
“That almost all our partners from last year continue to be with us and that we managed to inspire the enthusiasm of Alpinestars, EMC2, Kicker and TAG Heuer as new strong brands for the DTM and for Audi clearly shows that the DTM’s popularity will increase even further this year”, said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
“I think that our designers in collaboration with our partners have managed to get very beautiful cars off the ground”, he added.
The first four Audi Sport outfits that were unveiled at Valencia are Team Abt Sportsline, with Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Scheider driving the Red Bull- and AUTO TEST- livered cars, Team Abt, with Rachel Frey (E-POSTBRIEF) and Adrien Tambay (Audi ultra), Team Phoenix with Mike Rockenfeller (Schaeffler) band Miguel Molina (Red Bull) and Team Rosberg, with Edoardo Mortata (Playboy) and Filipe Alburuerque (TV Movie).
