A 420HP M3 is, in itself, a special model even in standard specification. Nevertheless, BMW has decided to launch a new Limited Edition version of both the coupe and convertible variants of the M3 that will be produced in 500 units, all of which are destined for the UK market.
The M3 Limited Edition 500 does not feature any mechanical changes: it is still powered by the normally aspirated 420HP V8 which transfers power to the rear axle via a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. So, no change in performance or handling (as in the hardcore GTS for example) compared to the stock model then.
What makes this M3 special is that each of the 500 models will be available in three “patriotic” colors: Mineral White, Imola Red or Santorini Blue (editor’s note: the last two remind us of Italy and Greece respectively, rather than Great Britain…).
Both the coupe and convertible sport a high-gloss “Shadowline” exterior trim and 19-inch high-gloss black alloys. The interior is trimmed in “Novillo” leather and features contrast stitching on the sports seats and door panels according to each car’s exterior color.
The Mineral White cars get Fox Red leather with black stitching, Imola Red models Black leather with Mugello Red stitching, and the Santorini Blue variants feature with Black leather and Tobago Blue stitching.
Apart from the Piano Black interior trim, owners of the Limited Edition 500 M3s will be reminded of the fact that they own a special edition by the “One of 500” designation laser-cut on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
The Limited Edition 500 M3s will be available in the UK starting this month, priced at £55,690 for the coupe and £59,785 for the convertible.
BMW UK points out that, despite the £1,000 price hike over the standard M3, the specification included as standard in those 500 cars costs “well over £4,000”.
