Fresh from receiving the 2012 “European Car of the Year” award for its Volt hybrid, Chevrolet has chosen the Geneva Motor Show to unveil the third version of the Cruze.
The saloon and five-door hatch back are joined by the Cruze Station Wagon, which made its world premiere today at the Swiss show and was the main attraction at Chevrolet’s 1,600 square meter stand.
Based on the saloon, the station wagon offers a loading from 500 liters up to the window line in the rear to nearly 1,500 liters if you fill it up to the roof with the rear seats folded down.
The introduction of the new bodystyle also marks a mild facelift for the entire 2012 Cruze range. It includes some minor styling tweaks to the front grille, headlights and fog lamps plus new wheel designs, as well as small changes inside to the center console and a greater choice of seat finishes.
The facelifted Cruze will also offer new equipment features including keyless entry and start, a rear view camera, auto start-stop and Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system.
The most important change, however, is under the hood. In addition to the current 1.6- and 1.8-liter normally aspirated gasoline engines that remain unchanged, the 2012 Cruze gets a new 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline unit and two diesels, a new 1.7-liter and a revised 2.0-liter unit.
