Last week, we showed you the first official photo of the reworked 2013 Mercedes-Benz G-Class that made an unanticipated appearance in the background of a press shot for the 2013 GLK.

We we’re expecting the updated G-Class to receive its world premiere at next week’s 2012 New York Auto Show, but that won’t be the case.

After speaking to a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson, Bild journalist Michael Langenwalter sent us an email where he told us that the G-Class will make its first public outing at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show in China on April 23.

While there’s not much to say about the 2013 G-Class exterior makeover that is limited to some minor details such as the addition of ED daytime running lights up front and the new mirror housings, there’s a lot going on inside as well as under the hood.

The refreshed G-Wagen will get a more modern dashboard along with a new infotainment system and controls.

The big news, however, is the rumored introduction of two new AMG models, the 2013 G55 (or G63) AMG with a 5.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 525HP and 700Nm (516.3 lb-ft) and an even more radical, limited run G65 AMG version sporting the brand’s bi-turbocharged V12.

It is also possible that Mercedes will make changes to the other available engines and transmissions in the G-Class’ range to improve fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
