GMC was one of General Motors’ four brands in the United States to live to tell another tale after the company’s restructuring process in 2009, which brought the end of Pontiac, Hummer and Saturn.
One of the main reasons GMC remained alive is because for the past few years, it’s GM’s second bestselling brand in the States behind Chevrolet.
This year GMC celebrates its 100th birthday and to commemorate the event, the company will debut a new Heritage Edition for the 2012 Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra at next week’s New York International Auto Show.
The special edition models feature commemorative exterior badges with the original GMC logo design that launched on the 1912 range of models, which included gas- and electric-powered trucks.
In addition, each Heritage Edition features unique content. For example, the Sierra pickup truck gets embroidered front floor mats and headrests, chrome door handles, mirror caps and door moldings, 20-inch alloys, a convenience package with rear park assist, adjustable pedals, universal home remote, ez-lift locking tailgate and rear wheelhouse liners, plus rear-vision camera.
The Yukon and Yukon XL Heritage models get embroidered front floor mats and front headrests, an SLT-2 Equipment Package with 10-way leather memory seats, headed second-row seats with power release, power-operated liftgate and heated side mirrors, while 20-inch alloy wheels are offered as an option.
The trucks will be available in three different colors, including a new and exclusive Heritage Blue (priced at $195), White Diamond ($995) and Onyx Black (no additional cost).
As for pricing, the Heritage Edition package adds $2,645 to the Sierra, $1,970 to the Yukon and Yukon XL, and $1,820 to the Yukon XL ¾-ton model.
“The GMC brand always looks forward, but this day provides an opportunity to celebrate 100 years of the proud GMC name,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. “Sierra and Yukon are two of our longest-running and most-respected nameplates, so it makes sense to use them to represent our heritage.”
