This is the new generation of the Hyundai i30 Wagon and it was revealed at this week’s 82nd Geneva International Motor Show.
It’s a C-segment model that competes against the Ford Focus Estate and it is based on the five-door hatchback version of the i30 series, which will be sold as the Elantra GT in North America. The previous generation of the i30 Wagon continues to be marketed under the Elantra Touring nameplate in the States.
The wagon is 30mm taller and 185mm longer than the hatchback, which translates into more space for passengers and their luggage despite the fact that the wheelbase remains the same as the five-door model, at 2.650 mm.
More specifically, front seat occupants enjoy 12mm more headroom and rear passengers +38 mm compared to the hatchback along with improved access to and across the rear seats as Hyundai says it has lowered the floor’s central tunnel by 59% (from 133 mm to just 54 mm).
There’s a lot more space to be found in the trunk as in this body style, its capacity reaches 528 liters with the rear seats up (an increase of 113-liters compared to the original i30 Wagon), which can be extended to 1,642-liters when the seats are folded flat or just 33-liters shy of the Jaguar XF Sportbrake.

We expect it to appeal strongly to those looking for stylish and flexible practicality, especially active families.”
The new iteration of the i30 wagon offers buyers the same engine line-up as the five-door derivative, including a 90PS (89bhp) 1.4-liter diesel, a 110PS (109bhp) 1.6-liter diesel, a 128PS (126bhp) 1.6-liter diesel, a 100PS (99bhp) 1.4-liter petrol, a 120PS (118bhp) 1.6-liter petrol and a 135PS (133bhp) 1.6-liter petrol.
Hyundai offers both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The 2012 i30 wagon will be available across Europe starting from July 2012.
