With the Geneva motor show now behind us (at least for the press as it will be open for the public until March 18), automakers are gearing up for the next event which is none other than the 2012 New York International Auto Show in April.

Over the weekend, Hyundai published the first teaser images of the all-new 2013 Santa Fe revealing the exterior design of its mid-size crossover.

The South Korean carmaker says that the third generation Santa Fe embodies an evolution of the firm’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language named ‘Storm Edge’. What this translates to is a more chiseled shape with a boxier front end than the frumpy current model.

Up front, we find Hyundai’s familiar hexagonal grille while the sharper lines distinguish the crossover’s profile.

“The all-new Santa Fe, whose core product concepts are “Refinement,” ”Smartness” and “Practicality, ” is expected to be a hit in the global SUV market, offering the best value to customers in every aspect, with its differentiated design, cutting-edge technologies, good fuel economy and practical use of space,” said Hyundai in a statement.

The new Santa Fe is expected to begin rolling out in global markets after its world premiere in New York, with more specific details to become available at a later date.
