The fans have spoken and they decided that the production version of the blacked-out, production-intent Jeep Grand Cherokee Concept we saw at the 2012 Houston Auto Show in late January, should be named “Altitude”.
Jeep says the “Name My Ride” competition on Facebook was so successful that it decided to launch the same ‘Altitude’ package for the Compass and Patriot as well.
“The fact that well over 100,000 consumers entered our ‘Name My Ride’ contest reinforces the passion behind the Jeep brand’ said Jeep boss, Mike Manley. “The extraordinary response to both the concept and the contest resulted in an easy decision to produce ‘blacked-out’ editions of the Grand Cherokee – and the Compass and Patriot,” he added.
The common theme for all three Altitude models, which will arrive in Jeep showrooms this May, is the murdered-out look. However, aside from the black finish, Jeep will also offer some additional body colors for each model.
Beginning with the Grand Cherokee Altitude, prices start at $35,595 for 4×2 models and $37,595 for AWD versions.
Available in Deep Cherry Red, Brilliant Black, Mineral Gray, Bright Silver Metallic, Maximum Steel Metallic and Stone White, the Grand Cherokee Altitude gets a gloss black grille surround and 20-inch alloy wheels, a platinum chrome finish for the mesh grille insert and lower fascia applique, plus black headlamp bezels and liftgate light bar.
Standard features include leather-trimmed seats, steering wheel and shifter, a 9-speaker audio system with iPod/MP3 connectivity and a rear back-up camera.
Next up is the Compass Altitude that’s priced from $22,190 for the 4×2 models and $23,940 for 4×4 variants.
Buyers can choose from three exterior colors including Deep Cherry Red, Black, Mineral Gray and Bright White, all of which feature a black gloss grille, roof rails, back step pad and 18-inch wheels.
Finally, we have the Patriot Altitude that’s available in Deep Cherry Red, Black, Mineral Gray and Bright White, with MSRPs starting from $20,240 for the 4×2 models and $23,275 for the all-wheel drive variants.
Regardless of the exterior shade, the Patriot Altitude gets 17-inch high-gloss black aluminum wheels with Firestone BSW all-season touring tires, a bright chrome lower fascia and rear step pad appliques, and bright polished steel roof rails.
