If you were ever to associate cars with watches, the Toyota Camry’s equivalent timepiece would be something in the likes of a Casio or Seiko: an affordable product that does the job day in, day out. Likewise, a Maserati would be like a Bulgari.
So it doesn’t come to much of a surprise that Maserati and Bulgari joined forces or as the two companies put it, “to share their ideals” that are “admirably epitomized” in the Octo Maserati timepiece.
This almost octagonal-shaped chronograph (hence the Octo name) is enclosed in a steel case measuring 45mm in diameter. It features a scratchproof sapphire crystal and a transparent caseback with the Maserati Trident.
This allows you to admire the inside workings of the mechanical Calibre GG780 Haute Horlogerie movement. In case you’re not familiar with the term, it means that it’s not your run-of-the-mill quartz movement, but a mechanical one that has been exquisitely crafted (and exorbitantly priced) by the brand.
What you’ll mostly see, though, is the front, which is quite eye catching thanks to the brushed steel bezel with a tachometric scale, the hand-applied octagonal inner bezel ring and the blue-lacquered dial with the date positioned at 12 o’clock.
