Ah, the never-ending battle of which is the best Batmobile of all time. A new webshow called ‘Super Power Beat Down’ has brought together two of the most famous Batmobiles from the whacky 1966-1968 Batman television series and from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film.
Before you get overly excited and if you haven’t figured it out already, these aren’t the original cars but replicas – just like the 1966 Batmobile we took a ride in back in 2010.
The builder gave some initial specs on the two cars. The ’66 is built on a C4 Corvette platform and is powered by an L98 V8 allegedly pushing out somewhere between 300 to 325-horses. It is claimed that it tops out at around 150-160mph (241-257km/h) and can complete the quarter mile in “high 9’s or low 10’s”.
The ’89 Batmobile has a Camaro front clip and a custom chassis while it’s fitted with a Chevrolet 350 cu.in. V8 crate motor delivering about 285-horsepower for a claimed top speed of 180mph (290km/h) and a “10 to 11 second run” for the quarter mile.
To say that the performance numbers for both the 1966 and the 1989 Batmobile sound hugely optimistic would be the Holy Batman understatement of the year…
Even if you’re not much of a fan, you may want to hang on and watch the video until the end as the show’s host suits up in her bikini and gives the Batmobile a good cleaning…
