It will interesting to see what Audi’s designers have in store for us with the upcoming, third generation TT sports car series, and with that we mean if they’re going to reheat the same old styling dish or if we should expect something radically new.
For the time being, however, our scoop photographers nabbed an early test mule being driven around Europe for evaluation purposes.
Hiding underneath the modified body of the current model is the VW Group’s brand new and widely advertised, MQB transverse platform architecture. The same chassis debuted on the new A2012 Audi A3 hatchback, while it will also form the base for a great number of future VW Group models.
Our spies tell us that aside from the wider tracks that are visible in these photos, the TT mule also appeared to ride on a slightly longer wheelbase.
Audi officials have hinted that the new model will be lighter and more driver-orientated than the current TT.
It’s still too early to have precise details on the engine range, but it’s almost certain that by the time Audi presents the new TT by 2014, the German group will have widened the availability of its new fuel-saving, cylinder deactivation system for smaller four-cylinder powerplants that debuted on the new VW Polo GT Blue’s 1.4-liter TSI petrol.
