This sleek looking concept model is the Tata Megapixel and it made its world premiere at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show this week.

The Megapixel is Tata’s vision of what a modern city car should be in the not so distant future. It is a follow up to the three-door Pixel concept that was displayed at last year’s Geneva Auto Salon, and which Tata says will form the base for a production model targeting Western markets such as Europe.

The five-door Megapixel measures 3,504mm long, 1,673mm wide and 1,405mm tall, which means it is slightly smaller than the new Fiat Panda. It is equipped with double sliding doors on both sides and does not feature a B-pillar to improve access to the interior.

The four-seater model is a range extended electric vehicle (REEV) that combines four in-wheel electric motors, each delivering an output of 10kW (13bhp) that are fed by a lithium ion phosphate battery, with an on-board, 0.3-liter single-cylinder petrol engine generator for recharging on the move.

According to the Indian automaker, the Megapixel offers a driving range of up to 900km (560 miles) on a single tank of fuel.

Speaking at the presentation of the Megapixel in Geneva, Prakash M. Telang, Tata’s Managing Director, Tata Motors, said: “The Tata Megapixel, developed by our design centres in India, the UK and Italy, is our idea of a city car for discerning motorists in any megacity of the world. It is a result of the progress we have made on the Tata Pixel, displayed last year, and also denotes the company’s future design direction.”
