Business is going good for Volkswagen and its new Tennessee manufacturing facility, which builds the North American Passat. The company today announced that it would be adding 800 new jobs at the factory to meet rising customer demand for the mid-size sedan model.

This latest move comes on top of a previous announcement this year of 200 additional jobs at the Chattanooga plant, bringing the total new jobs in 2012 to 1,000 and the total workforce to 3,500 by year-end.

The Chattanooga plant currently employs more than 2,700 people, including 2,200 by Volkswagen and an additional 500 by Aerotek, which is the company’s staffing partner.

“We will use this opportunity to hire many of our current Aerotek contract employees. So, Aerotek will be recruiting to fill full-time contract production positions that will open up as a result. We will also be hiring additional supervisors, quality engineers, and professionals in a number of areas,” said Hans-Herbert Jagla, Executive Vice President of Human Resources.

According to a report from Autonews, VW initially planned to build up to 150,000 Passat sedans a year by 2013, but now, it is aiming to manufacture more than 170,000 units annually.

Through February this year, VW has sold 14,507 units of the U.S.-built Passat.
