Just as it begins reaching Subaru dealerships across Europe, the all-new XV Crosstrek made its first public appearance today in North American specification at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.
The XV Crosstrek will arrive in U.S. showrooms this fall as a 2013 model in two trim levels with a 2.0-liter boxer engine and standard all-wheel drive.
If you haven’t figured it out already, it is based on the latest Impreza featuring a reworked suspension with a higher ride height that offers a respectable 8.7 inches of ground clearance along with a rugged exterior appearance that includes new front and rear bumpers, a different grille and black cladding all around the body.
In addition, the XV Crosstrek rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around 225/55 R17 all-season tires and gets a more potent braking system with larger rotors than on the Impreza 2.5i models.
Power comes exclusively from a 2.0-liter boxer engine with 148-horses teamed to Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system via a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
The Japanese company projects the 2013 XV Crosstrek to return an estimated 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined.
Pricing has not yet been announced.
