2014 Mazda6 Based on Takeri Concept Confirmed for Paris Motor Show [New Gallery]

After its world premiere in Tokyo this past December and its European debut in Geneva last month, the Mazda Takeri concept car made its first appearance on North American soil at this week’s New York International Auto Show.

However, more importantly, at the presentation, the Japanese company announced that the production version of the Takeri Concept, which is none other than the next generation Mazda6, will make its world debut at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show in late September.

The automaker said that the new Mazda6’s design elements will be strongly influenced by the Takeri, which has been received positively by both the public and the press.

In North America, the new Mazda6 will go on sale as a 2014 model during the first quarter of 2013 and will be offered with the brand’s new SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine and a choice of two transmissions, the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual and SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic.

The concept model’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine with a fuel-saving ‘i-stop’ system and six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission, will surely be offered in Europe, and possibly in the States at a later date.

“With SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine, Mazda has showcased that improving engine and vehicle efficiencies can still produce a dynamic-performing driving machine, as evidenced by the 2012 Mazda3 and 2013 CX-5,” said Jim O’Sullivan, CEO of Mazda North America .

“The all-new 2014 Mazda6 will be the latest Mazda to break out of its segment’s monotonous mold and be fiercely competitive versus the current sales leaders,” he added.
