In line with its initiative to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions across its range, Volvo announced the introduction of a new five-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine.
The new diesel, which is designated D3, has an output of 136HP and 350Nm (258.1 lb-ft) of torque and slots between the 115HP D2 and the 163HP D4 engines. It will be available in the S60, V60, XC60, V70 and S80 models and can be combined with both manual and automatic transmissions.
In addition, the Swedish carmaker announced some upgrades for its 2013 models, which will be available before the summer of 2012.
From now on, the S60, V60, V70 and S80 can be equipped with the Road Sign Information, Active High Beam and Tunnel Detection safety systems, while all automatic transmission models gain the transparent and LED-illuminated knob first introduced in the new V40.
A new 5-spoke forged, 18-inch aluminum wheel is available for the S60, V60, V70 and S80, while the 11-spoke, 17-inch Saga wheel for the V70 and S80 is updated with black contrast paint on the diamond-cut parts.
Finally, the V70 gets an redesigned grille with glossy black details, while the brushed aluminum trim from the XC60 will also be available in the S60 and V60.
