We’ve already had the chance to see the first images of BMW’s i8 Spyder concept in advance of its world premiere at the Beijing Auto Show, where it will be presented alongside the new local market 3-Series LWB model, but if you’d like to watch the study on the move, we’ve just added three new videos that you can check out right past the break.

The Spyder is a two-seater, open-top version of the four-seater i8 coupe study that previews BMW‘s first hybrid sports car, scheduled for launch by early 2014.

The two cars share their gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain that consists of an electric motor fitted over its front axle and a high-performance 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine mounted behind the passenger compartment.

The car’s lithium-ion batteries can be recharged either through a regular, domestic socket or via the regenerative braking system.

BMW says that the i8 Spyder is good for a combined fuel consumption of just 3.0lt/100km, equal to 94.2mpg UK or 78.4mpg US, in the European test cycle.
