Honda’s premium subdivision Acura has pinpointed a problem with the power steering system of the 2007 and 2008 model year TL sedans in the U.S. and for this reason has issued a voluntary safety recall of 52,615 cars.
“Over time, the power steering hose may deteriorate and develop a fluid leak,” said Acura in a statement. “Leaking power steering fluid could lead to loss of power steering assistance or, if it leaks onto a catalytic converter it may result in smoke, or in the worst case, fire,” added the company.
Acura noted that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to the power steering system problem.
The automaker plans to notify owners of the affected cars in mid-June and have them visit their local dealer to replace the power steering hose.
