A variety of Ford and Lincoln models are being recalled in the States to fix a potential issue with the automatic transmission.

In particular, the Blue Oval told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling 10,500 vehicles, including the 2012-2013 Ford Mustang sports car, 2011-2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck, 2012 Ford Expedition SUV and 2012 Lincoln Navigator SUV.

“These vehicles may have a transmission range sensor (TRS) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear,” Ford said in a filing on the NHTSA website.

According to the company, if this condition exists, then the transmission may not go into reverse or if it does, the “R” may not illuminate on the dashboard and the backup lamp may not light up.

“These conditions increase the risk of a crash or a pedestrian being struck due to the vehicle’s not signaling it is in reverse,” said the safety agency.

Ford plans to notify owners of the affected models and begin the recall towards the end of June. The company’s dealers will inspect and replace the TRS if necessary, free of charge.
