A Kia spokesperson has confirmed plans to drop the Sedona minivan for the 2013 model year from its U.S. lineup.
The news comes about a week after we learned that the South Korean automaker is preparing a common replacement for the Sedona’s short-wheelbase sibling, the Carnival, and the smaller Carens MPV, neither of which are offered in the States.
Speaking to Automotive News, Kia spokesman James Hope said that the company will likely prepare a successor to the Sedona for the U.S. but he didn’t provide any more details. That said, we do not know if Kia will launch the common replacement for the Carens and Carnival in the States or if it follow a different path developing a another model.
“We’re not going to get completely out of the segment,” said Hope. “It’s a market that we’re still interested in being in.”
The news site said that a new minivan is part of Kia’s U.S. product plan for the 2014 model year.
