While Mitsubishi is still pondering if and when it will offer the new Mirage in the States (Canada has already been confirmed), across the pond, the subcompact model will likely replace the slightly larger Colt.
Our spy shooters caught up with Mitsubishi’s testers trying out a thinly disguised Mirage prototype on German roads.
The only parts of the car hidden under black tape were the headlamps, taillights and of course, Mitsubishi’s badges, but even so, we did not spot any differences whatsoever over the Mirage already offered in select markets in Asia.
At 3710 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and 1,490 mm tall, the Mirage is 170mm shorter than the current Colt placing it between A-segment city cars like the Fiat Panda and B-segment superminis like the Opel Corsa.
Power will likely come from the same engine lineup as the Asian market Mirage that includes a choice of two three-cylinder gasoline engines with a displacement of 1.0-liter and 1.2-liters, both offered with a Start/Stop system to improve fuel efficiency.
Look for the European version of the Mirage at this fall’s 2012 Paris Motor Show.
