One of the most important vehicles in Renault’s lineup from a sales perspective, the Clio, will soon give its place to a brand new model that promises to bring a radical redesign of both the exterior and interior as well better materials and higher quality throughout.
The fourth generation of the Clio will bow at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show at the end of September and go on sale shortly after.
This particular prototype of the French supermini, which our spies spotted undergoing tests in Southern Europe, featured some odd looking extensions and bumps on the camouflaged body, namely on the roof, the hood and the doors, which could be covering something or nothing – we can’t say for sure.
The new Clio will ride on a slightly larger platform that will benefit both passenger and luggage space.
The exterior styling will be bolder than the current model with the five-door variant pictured in these scoops featuring hidden rear door handles. As evidenced by the front-end and the sculptured profile, the Clio Mk4’s design language is heavily inspired by Renault’s recent concept models like the DeZir coupe and the Frendzy minivan.
Inside, the cabin will have a more defined and emotional design while another highlight is said to be the higher quality materials.
At this stage, we hear that the Clio 4 will launch with Renault’s latest generation of downsized turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, while further down the line, the French automaker will introduce a high-performance replacement for the RS variant.
