Rivaling premium carmakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW have both issued recalls on select models over unrelated problems.

Starting with Mercedes-Benz, the Stuttgart-based brand is recalling a total of 3,613 E350 4matic station wagons from the 2006-2009MY manufactured from July 1, 2006, through April 30, 2009, because a connecting rod for the load leveling rear suspension system may fail.

If this were to occur, the driver may have reduced vehicle control thus increasing the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benzes told the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA) that it will notify owners and starting from August, dealers will inspect and if necessary, replace the level control connecting rod, free of charge, of course.

Moving on to BMW, the Bavarian automaker discovered that on certain 2012MY X5s equipped with a diesel engine and 2013MY X5 and X6 crossovers, power steering fluid might leak due to a machining error of the steering gear surface.

If the fluid were to leak on hot exhaust parts, it could cause a fire.

BMW said that 2,642 vehicles are affected by the safety recall that will begin during July 2012.
