It is without question the largest and most powerful engine to ever be displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. However, it will never be used on cars but on special equipment such as mining haul trucks with a capacity of over 400 tonnes and some of the world’s largest rail locomotives.
We’re talking about Cummins’ brand new QSK95 Diesel engine, also known by its code name “Hedgehog”. In its…base form, the gargantuan diesel unit has 16-cylinders and a displacement of 95-liters that deliver over 4,000-horses and more than 16,000Nm (11,799 lb-ft) of torque.
Cummins also plans to introduce a larger, 120-liter 20-cylinder version with some 5,000-horses in the very near future.
“It is difficult to judge the sheer size of this product until you see it,” commented Steve Nendick, Cummins Marketing Communications Director for Europe. “We are very proud to be able to promote our brand new QSK95 product to visitors at Goodwood. Visitors will be truly astounded by its size allied with its environmental credentials,” he added.
According to Nendick, the new QSK95 is so powerful that it could provide the equivalent electric power to over 3,500 UK houses!
