What good is success if you don’t share it with others, right? On Thursday, Fiat announced that it sold the 100,000th example of its 500 city car in the UK, some four and a half years since it arrived in the market.

The milestone follows on from another success in April when official UK sales figures placed the 500 inside the top 10 best sellers in the country with 2,600 vehicles sold that month.

“We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,” says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.”

In conjunction with the announcement, Fiat released some interesting facts about UK buyers’ choices:

  • 80 per cent of all 500 sales have been 1.2-litre petrol engine versions;
  • Eight per cent of sales are of the new 0.9-litre two cylinder TwinAir version, which was not introduced until 2010;
  • 48 per cent of cars purchased are in the top-of-the-range Lounge trim;
  • The most popular colour choices are Bossanova white, Pasodoble red, Volare light blue and the metallic Crossover black
