Honda will cease local production of the Japanese market versions of the current Acura RL and Honda Accord sedans, which are sold in the Land of the Rising Sun as the Honda Legend and Inspire respectively, at the company’s plant in Saitama Prefecture at the end of June, Japan’s Kyodo news reported.
Even though Honda has yet to confirm the move, citing sources from within the company, the news agency reported that the automaker has already notified dealerships of its decision to stop accepting orders for the two models.
The sources stated that Honda will allocate the resources freed from the Saitama plant for the production of “more popular compact cars and minivehicles”, adding that the automaker may instead import the next generation of the Legend from North America where it will be sold as the new Acura RLX.
