And the award for the most reckless mother of the year goes to…a Colorado woman who had her two children, a 14 year old and a toddler, sitting in the car without seatbelts but had a small gas tank strapped on the child’s safety seat.
It sounds like a joke but there’s photo proof as the police officer who pulled over Sandra Ramirez during a routine stop in Aurora, Colorado, on May 30, snapped a shot of what he encountered in the car for the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
The Colorado Department of Transportation then posted the photo on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
“This could be one of the extreme incidents we’ve ever seen,” Aurora Police spokesperson Frank Fania told the Denver Post.
The mother initially told the officer that her 3-year old son in diapers “wiggled out” of the safety seat and sat next to it. The officer, however, continued to question Ramirez about the child and the strapped gas tank. Her reply was, “Oh, he unbuckles and buckles his seat belt by himself all the time.”
The woman was cited for three accounts of seat-belt violations, and other traffic offenses including no proof of insurance.
