When Jaguar premiered the open-top version of the XKR-S at the LA Auto Show back in November of last year, we thought the British marque was done with the series.
However, this past February, Frank Klaas, Jaguar’s global head of communications told Car&Driver magazine that the company was considering the development of an even more limited production edition of the coupe that would appeal to those who want to spend a lot of time on the track with a street-legal model.
In other words, a more hardcore version of the XKR-S. Klaas had said at the time that the proposed but unconfirmed model would likely drop the rear seats and some of the interior amenities while gaining a fire-suppression system, unique gauges, and track-focused aero add-ons, possibly even a roll cage.
Now, as these fresh spy pictures from the Nürburgring racetrack prove, the special edition version of the XKR-S is a reality.
The car sports a new hood with more air outlets, which suggests that Jaguar engineers may have also fettled around with the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 542hp (550PS) on the standard XKR-S models. If that’s the case, we may also see a stiffer suspension tuned for the track.
New aerodynamic parts include the canards mounted on the sides of the front bumper together with a protruding lip spoiler and a large rear wing at the back.
