Prices for the five-door body style of the Volkswagen up! have been announced for the UK market. The new Up! 5d costs £365 more than the less practical but otherwise identical three-door model, with on-the-road prices starting from £8,360.
Volkswagen expects that the five-door models will make up just over half of all up! sales.
The five-door up! rides on the same 2.42 m long wheelbase and has the same 3.54m overall vehicle length, 251-litre boot, 947 mm of rear headroom and 789 mm of rear legroom as the three-door model.
The trim levels also mirror that of the three-door, with a choice of Take up!, Move up! and High up! models, plus the special edition up! Black and up! White.
As with the three-door model, the Up! 5d is offered with two 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine options rated at 59bhp (60PS) and 74bhp (75PS). In BlueMotion Technology trim, the 60PS model returns 68.9 mpg UK on the combined cycle with 95g/km of CO2 emission, and the 75PS model, 67.3 mpg and 98g/km, respectively.
The German carmaker said that a fully electric version will join the range in late 2013, while an automated manual transmission will become optional later this year.
