If there’s one thing that remains unchanged from one generation of VW’s van to the other, is the variety of models that cover all sorts of needs ranging from commercial editions and pickup trucks to people carriers and campers.
For its latest Caravelle model, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is targeting a slightly different crowd than usual, that of the business industry.
Aptly named the Caravelle Business, this new model is designed to be “a mobile conference room” with state of the art technology that includes Wi-Fi internet connectivity and Bluetooth, combined with a more luxurious atmosphere achieved through the use of high quality Nappa leather upholstery and burr wood inserts.
The Caravelle Business seats six people including the driver and features a so-called “sociable rear lounge area” with four individual seats and an adjustable table. As with other passenger editions of the Caravelle, the two middle seats swivel to face forwards or backwards. There’s also a fridge integrated between the last two seats.
Some added amenities in the driver’s compartment include cruise control, satellite navigation with 6.5 in colour screen and 30GBhard drive, a leather multi-function steering wheel and lane change assist to warn of vehicles in the driver’s blind spot.
On the outside, the Caravelle Business features some discreet options such as the 17-inch alloy wheels, darkened rear light clusters and LED daytime running lights.
The Business edition is offered with Volkswagen’s 2.0-litre 178hp (180PS) bi-turbo TDI diesel engine linked to a standard DSG double-clutch automatic transmission that returns 34.9 mpg UK (29.1mpg US) on the combined cycle with CO2emissions of 214 g/km.
Retail prices in the UK start from £53,856 (plus VAT) for the front wheel drive model and from £56,069 (plus VAT) for the 4MOTION all-wheel drive version.
