Over the past few weeks, we have read many reports and rumors about possible new additions to Volkswagen’s range including a mid-size SUV positioned between the Tiguan and the Touareg and a compact CC sports sedan based on the next Jetta, which may or may not come to the U.S.

Now we hear that the German brand’s officials are considering yet another new model to enhance Volkswagen’s presence in the crossover segment based on the future Jetta SportWagen (estate).

“We think there is definite sales potential in North America and other world markets for a new lifestyle-targeted Jetta model,” an unnamed senior Volkswagen source told Autoweek magazine. “It could be based on the successor to [the] existing model.”

What this means is that VW is thinking about the development of a Jetta Alltrack, much in the likes of the European Passat Alltrack that was shown as a design concept at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April.

The Alltrack package would enhance the station wagon version of the Jetta with a raised ground clearance, plastic cladding all around, roof rails, different interior trim, and according to the report, the choice of either standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive.

The Jetta Alltrack would be manufactured at VW’s plant in Mexico alongside the sedan model. Aside from North America, it could also be offered in Europe and other markets around the world.
